Rocket Dog Rescue helped Artie escape from the over-crowded Merced Animal Shelter. He had been picked up stray and spent about a month at the shelter, so he was in very great jeopardy there. Artie is a 7-9 month old 50 lb lab/shepard/? mix. He LOVES people, adults and kids alike, and is happy to lounge around the house with you. He is very affectionate, cuddling and laying at your feet, all day long but can give you your space if needed. He also gets along and loves to play with other dogs and is quite excited at the dog park!

While we don't know Artie's history prior to arrival at the Merced Animal Shleter. It's likely he was abandoned or neglected by his prior owner because he has separation anxiety when left home alone. Ideally his new family would be home most of the day or be able to take Artie to work with them. However, he seems to be better with canine companionship if his people aren't around so a home with another friendly dog for Artie to hang with might also be a good fit.

Being a puppy, Artie has a lot of energy and is happy to accompany you on long walks, hikes or jogs. Artie could benefit from more training, is an incredibly smart boy/fast learner and quite food motivated. He already knows the commands "sit" and "shake" and is picking up "down" and "stay". With the help of treats and time he'll be the perfect dog.
